| Now that I know someone might actually read this, I promise to do my best to update more frequently.
Yesterday was my first day back to work after Christmas vacation. It was good to be back---although getting up at 5:30 AM does not top my list of fun things to do. I was greeted by a multitude of e-mails that needed reading, deleting and answering. I think I've accomplished the reading and deleting part. There's still a little answering to do, but that will happen tomorrow.
At the office we're gearing up for our winter training events . . . track 2 of our Appointee Orientation, prayer summitt and renewal conference, and the first debriefing of the year. This debriefing is supposed to be kid-free, but two of my favorite kids are coming. It should be fun to spend some time with them.
On the personal side of life, I've got some health issues going on. I have some tests this Thursday for one thing and then different tests next Wednesday for another issue. I'm beginning to think I'm the medical world's bread and butter.

| Tomorrow I head down to the Springs for IMKEC (Intermission MK Educator's Consultation). This is a group of mission leaders involved in MK education. It's always a good time of networking and seeing what other organizations are doing. It also seems to be a good forum for me to find other things to add to my plate. Three years ago these meetings got me involved in designing the One Room Schoolhouse curriculum/training. Last year it got me into the formation of an educational support organization for families working in Africa and the Middle East. Right now, I hope this year's meetings don't get me involved in anything else. My plate is exceedingly full and my reserves are fairly depleted; I can't see sanely adding anything else to the mix. Sunday afternoon I give a report and lead a session on the Africa Middle East Thing. I just found out about it yesterday. I'm not too worried, but I'm afraid it means I need to do a little work on it this evening. Now if I can just figure out how to make it funny . . .

| Summer is basically over on my schedule. My interns are back in school, no kids are scheduled to come through the office, and I've started to firm up my fall calendar. It's calm but bittersweet.
Transition Seminar was 99% wonderful. It was the best one I've ever been a part of. Perhaps it was because the kids were generally older and more mature than other groups. Perhaps it was because lots of people were praying for us. Perhaps it was because I wasn't sick this year. Whatever the reason, it was a great week. I don't think I heard a complaint all week. For the most part the kids participated with gusto and made even potentially bad situations a lot of fun.
We went to a Sky Sox game one night and about a third of the way through the game, it started to rain. It only took an inning or so before it started to pour. Some of us took shelter under the overhang and continued to watch the game. Some took shelter and got into a rousing game of Dutch Blitz. About half the group stayed in the rain. They formed a line and did the wave, cheered loudly for the Sky Sox, did the macarena without music, and generally had an uprorious time. They were great entertainment!
Spraining my ankle rather badly was the 1% of the week that wasn't wonderful. I didn't even hurt it doing anything exciting. I merely walked down a path and turned my ankle. I finally relented to the masses and went for an x-ray. I was sure my ankle wasn't broken, and I was correct. If I hadn't gone, I wouldn't have the fancy little brace that now adorns my every wardrobe choice.
I leave in a month for a swing through pieces of the West Coast and then out to IL and IN. I'm looking forward to the next few weeks of being here and getting caught up on things. Write a comment and let me know that you're reading!

| It has been a lovely and quiet week so far. I've been houseguest free. There are no kids at the office. I've been able to give some thought to post-summer activities and responsibilities. Yesterday, Ben (one of my interns) and I spent most of the day working on the scrapbook of the summer. It always feels good to be creative!
Tomorrow we celebrate a successful summer. It's my last day with the interns, Ben and Kali. They did a fantastic job with the kids and with just about everything else I've asked them to do. So, we'll go out and enjoy something with too many calories and some good memories before I head off to Transition Seminar on Friday. They still have another week, but it will be without me breathing down their necks and questioning their color combination choices!

| Last week was Spanish. This week is French. My mouth and my brain are much more comfortable this week. It's officially "Jr. Hi and High School Week" in my world, but we've also got one 2 year old who only speaks French. He is my new best friend. Of course, I gain that status because I'm one of the few people here he understands, but I'll take it! | | |
